The decline is largely due to the efforts of the folks at the open-source Mozilla Foundation, which was established in 1998 to
resurrect the fast-failing Netscape browser platform. Seven years later,
well after the complete failure of the Netscape company, Mozilla is finally delivering on its
promise with Firefox, the latest rage in browser technology.
Security has been one of the biggest issues with IE, and it is a big
reason why users have been seeking alternative browsers. IE uses ActiveX controls, dynamic HTML, and other
technology to provide automation and programmatic control of the
browser, which is fine if you want to do things like integrating an
estimating system with your browser, but most users will never use this
capability. |

Google is also using the
extendibility to enhance their toolbar functionality. Sundar Pichai, Google product manager, was recently quoted: "The Firefox browser supports a lot of
extensions. We're adding to them by launching standalone separate extensions only for Firefox."
